Seven Basic Steps of Prayer
by Bettie Barta, Founder-Minister

When things get real tough, when new troubles come at you that you feel trapped, that’s the time when you turn desperately to God for help. And that is also the time when many people feel so hopelessly confused as to how to turn to God.

To many people religion is something to belong to, rather than something you study and practice. You may belong to an awesome huge church with choirs and Sunday School, but if at somewhere in your church activities you did not learn the principles and techniques of prayer, when you have a need to turn to God, you are bewildered and confused.

Prayer Is an art.Mostly we take prayer lightly. We teach our children to pray before meals and at bedtime, but many of us never advance beyond the prayer we were taught as a child.

New Class Focuses on Energy

The Bio-Energy Field has been sensed for centuries. Some call it the aura, others God's presence, or some the Spirit. In the 1980's a UCLA professor, Valerie V. Hunt, Ph.D., started conducting experiments to define what this field is and how it works. The results were reported in her book "Infinite Mind', with the workbook "Mind Mastery Mediations" as a 'how you do it' companion book for those who wanted to work with this field where thought becomes physical expression, communication with the Infinite as well as with other's fields transpires, effecting our physical bodies and emotions.

Thus we are offering this group class for those who would like to experience their own field, and start to become master of it. Realizing that this may bring to light some emotional or mental blocks, we have asked Irene Zalkin, LCSW, to lead this group using her training in body-mind therapies such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Gestalt Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Native American Shamanic techniques. You will work in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realms. Change will occur, as this series is experiential and mind changing. For the past 20 years Irene has led many groups and counseled many individuals, families and couples.

Registration is required. For those who find the fee difficult to handle, we have some scholarships and volunteer positions available; call the Unity North office to make these arrangements. See the web flyer on the UNTC web site; click here.

Once the class has begun, extra copies of the workbook will be available through the Unity North Bookstore.

Early Texts Class Starting

First up: The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles

Susan Barta will be leading classes on some of the early New Thought texts she is coming across in her research for the film, The Active Mind. These texts offer very concise 'mystic' how-to-do-it steps and explanations.

The first book is The Science of Getting Rich, perhaps Wattles best known book. This book is the basis for the movie, The Secret, as well as many other prosperity and success books, especially those from the early 20th century.

The class will be held on Monday evenings, at 7:00 p.m. We will start by listening to a book on tape version, following along in our own (provided) text, then end with a discussion of the material and/or an in class exercise. Since little work is required outside of class, all sessions are open to anyone who wants to study this dynamic text. The class is offered on a love offering basis, with the money going into the Unity North Film Fund.

Toddlers and Infants have a Nanny

Unity North has hired Chelsea Beauguard, a college student studying elementary education at IUPUI, who came to us through high recommendation from Mary Anne King, to care for the infants and toddlers. This will allow our Sunday School Staff to offer structured lessons and activities to teach Truth to school age children. The Unity North Youth program continues to meet down the hall in suite G.

Be sure to welcome Chelsea.

We would like to welcome Andrea Worrell, Licensed Unity Teacher and ordained New Thought minister, as our new Books & Media volunteer.

Book quote:
"Everything you see on earth is made from one original substance, out of which all things proceed.

New Forms are constantly being made, and older ones are dissolving; but all are shapes assumed by One Thing.

There is no limit to the supply of Formless Stuff, or Original Substance. The universe is made out of it; but it was not all used in making the universe. The spaces in, through, and between the forms of the visible universe are permeated and filled with the Original Substance; with the formless Stuff; with the raw material of all things. Ten thousand times as much as had been made might still be made, and even then we should not have exhausted the supply of universal raw material.” Chapter 3: Is Opportunity Monopolized?, Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D. Wattles, 1910.
