Bless A Mess
by Rev. Bettie Barta

Bettie Barta photoNo matter how you describe it a mess means trouble....and trouble is something we can do without. It usually means unhappiness, resistance, furrowed brows, tension, impatience, anger.

Trouble, whether it be illness, a record-breaking snow storm, an unexpected drain on our finances, or whatever, is a powerful temptation to respond with some kind of a negative emotion. It is like a huge figure of Frankenstein waving its arms at you and saying, “Come on, get upset, get scared, get angry!”

You don’t have to respond to that temptation the way Old Man Trouble is tempting you to respond, but you usually do. You usually excuse yourself by saying “Who wouldn’t get angry, is afraid, or unhappy at this situation?” Can you guess where I am going with this? You don’t have to respond the way the trouble, appearance, or condition tempts you to respond.
There is a saying that goes, “Nothing is improved until it is disturbed.” Take a pearl. continued

Participate by "wearing the colors."

Colors Of Truth starts Sept. 7th

Color — it defines, it enlivens, it stimulates our senses. Color signifies fun. What would the seasons be without it? What would our lives be?

Color coding is often used to help us make sense of instructions, and so starting September 7th, and for the next 12 weeks the Sunday service at Unity North Truth Center will be color coded. Each week will have an assigned color and everyone is encouraged to wear that color. Additionally, each person attending will receive a short piece of ribbon, which will be collected over the 12 weeks.

Then on November 23rd we will celebrate our new bright and colorful understanding of life with a pitch-in gathering. The Unity Men will then take the collection of ribbons and turn them into a personalized bookmark for each person. So this Fall, when the leaves are turning, we too will take on the Colors of Truth. Unity North joins World Day of Prayer & Global Unity Sept. 10-11

Unity North is joining Unity and the global community in praying and celebrating World Peace and Healing. Unity Village will host world transformational speakers, events and retreats — click here for more.

Unity North will join in with the following events:
  • Making Prayer Flags to be flown around the grounds of the Village. We will make flag Sunday Aug. 31 and Sept 7 after the service, or participants can take home material and return their prayer flag by Sept. 7. Prayer flags come from the Buddist tradition offering of prayers gathered by the wind and dispersed throughout the world.
  • Sept. 10, 7:50p. Join us as we gather to participate in the Opening service via internet. Rev. Mary Omwake is the keynote speaker.
  • Sept. 11, 8:00p-9:00p. We will have a World Day of Prayer Service led by Rev. Bettie Barta.

High-Watch Prayer Group comes to Unity North

Would you like to have a mid-week celebration and reminder of the Truth? Starting September 17 and each Wednesday evening we will meet in a High-Watch Prayer Group at the Center. This group will use the Affirmative Prayer technique taught by Unity and will support one another in realizing our dreams and aspirations.

Affirmative prayer expresses our awareness of God’s presence, and reinforces recognition of our eternal oneness with God. In Mark11:24 we read the word of Jesus as he said: "So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" Affirmative prayer is more than words or affirmation it is a way of thinking and creating the life we seek. We affirm what is spiritually true, release the rest, and step out in faith.

The High-Watch group will allow time to open our minds and hearts as we affirm each others divine intentions, and share our experiences of answered prayers. We also will hold the High-Watch for prayer request for ourselves and others.

This ongoing group will meet each Wednesday starting at 7:03 -8:04 Now you might think those are odd times but the numbers 703 add up to ten or 1 which is our spiritual beginning and the numbers 8:04 add up to twelve which represents spiritual completion, The group is open and you can come as often as you like. Join us for this powerful experience and a midweek reminder of your one presence and one power and your unique expression of your Christ-self. Group will be facilitated by Andréa Worrell License Unity Teacher.

Unity North Men’s Group

Mens GroupThe Unity North Men’s Group consists of men from Unity North that meet the first and third Tuesday of each month at Le Peep’s Restaurant in Hamilton Crossing at 126th Street and Route 31 in Carmel, at 9:00 AM.The meetings are informal and unstructured. In addition to breakfast, for those who wish, lively discussion prevails. Topics can range from spiritual to technical depending on what ideas or questions come up. We seem to deal with more questions than answers. We invite any men who wish to share in our fellowship to join us.

Coffee! "Unity Coffee and Cookie Purveyors" was the title under the picture of the first group of volunteers who provided coffee and treats to Unity North as it began life in its present location almost five years ago. Those first volunteers included Barbara Wickersham, Ann Elliott, Van Holley, Genny Salge, and Marge Frantzreb. We were a special fellowship - didn't know how many people to prepare for or how much/what kind of coffee to make! So we made quite a fellowship, sharing faith, uncertainty, recipes, and laughter. Each of us chose a special Sunday, which we were able to trade with others as needed.

Today the committee is lead by Marge Frantzreb, who provides our after service cookies the first week of the month, then Barbara Wickersham, Ceil Upchurch, Carol Minner and on the fifth Sunday, Van Holley. Not just women volunteer; Skip Rodeman and Gil Frantzreb assists with clean-up. Can't keep house without them!

Update to the membership from the UNTC board

We are focusing on responding to visitors, making them comfortable and welcome at Unity North Truth Center. We know that the first few moments before and after the service are crucial for guests to feel connected with us. In that spirit, we encourage you to introduce yourself to new people, offer them coffee/cookies and get to know them. It will make a tremendous difference to the guest, you and our Unity family. We want everyone to take responsibility for this important work.

Every quarter UNTC tithe goes to a community or non-profit group which one of our members is involved. Some examples of ways we’ve supported our member’s efforts are tithes to St. Mary’s Child Center (Larry Wickersham), Arts in Education program at John Strange School (Mary Ann King), Gleaners Food Bank, Timmy Foundation. Let one of your board members know what you’re involved in so that we can support your giving.

We continue to appreciate Sally Rodeman Applegate for all she has done to bring our lessons, meditations, and music into perfect alignment. We also support her in her effort to provide new talent to our music program. We encourage you to let Sally know about any one you know who would like to share their musical talent with us at our services.

We are looking for ways to bring our operating income and expenses into balance; currently our expenses are exceeding income.

We appreciate the support of everyone and know that Unity North Truth Center is a vibrant and prosperous community in which we all help each other thrive.
